Volunteers from the global business community are central to achieving the mission of helping the component of the ISCTE-IUL MIT Portugal Competition participants' achieve market impact. The Catalyst program aims to guide the Competition selectees and accelerate the process of commercialization of their technologies for the benefit of public stakeholders.
The Catalyst participants are a highly vetted group of individuals with experience in the issues surrounding innovation, technology commercialization, entrepreneurship and legal aspects of the business ventures themselves. Catalysts provide individual contribution to venture selectees for the award period (up to 9-months) and do not represent any company interests in their role as Catalysts.
How the program works?
Each team from 4 tracks that makes it to the semi-finals will be paired with one attorney Catalyst and one venture Catalyst (a VC or BA entrepreneur). The ISCTE-IUL MIT Portugal Competition organizers' goal for the Catalysts Program is that working with experienced, industry experts will allow participants to reach their full potential in developing their projects into sound businesses.
The Catalyst's Program is open to:
1. Senior level attorneys currently employed by a law firm; 2. Partner level venture capitalists currently employed by a VC or BA firm; 3. BA's or Entrepreneurs who successfully founded a start-up and now serve on the executive team for that company; 4. Corporate executives with experience in a specific industry in one of the competition 4 tracks;
Catalyst's Commitment
Catalysts will be paired with participants once the semi-finalist teams are determined at the semi-finals awards show event. Once these assignments are made, catalysts will work with their teams through the finale. During this time we ask that catalysts meet for one hour in person with their teams at least twice and maintain availability to communicate regularly via e-mail and/or phone. In addition, the ISCTE-IUL MIT Portugal Competition Organizers Committee hosts a formal dinner where teams will meet with their catalysts and begin the collaboration. Attendance at this event is required for catalysts Program participation. If your team is a finalist we ask that catalysts meet no less than one time per month during the Award Phase and attend 2 of the 3 planned venues.
